    Summary

    We are seeking a full-time environmental education program intern to work with our Director of Education and Outreach. We seek to share our enthusiasm for birds and conservation through classes, articles, booths, events, and more. This is an opportunity to gain experience in education, outreach, and day-to-day nonprofit operations.

    Selected candidates will have the opportunity to:

    -Help administer projects and programs such as field trips and Xtreme Hummingbird Xtravaganza.

    -Assist with outreach and marketing.

    -Help with day-to-day nonprofit duties such as entering volunteer hours, website maintenance, building maintenance, trail maintenance, and clerking the store.

    -Participate in ongoing conservation programs, including our SPLASh (Stopping Plastics and Litter Along Shorelines) program and avian research

    -Help organize public education and fundraising events.

    -Write environmental articles for local papers.

    -Speak to visitors at our outreach booth.

     

     

    The Ideal Applicant Should:

    -Hold, or be working toward, a degree in Biology, Science Education, Environmental Science or a related field

    -Be passionate about environmental education and outreach

    -Have a desire to work with adults and children of all ages and backgrounds in both indoor and outdoor settings.

    -Be creative, flexible, and self-motivated

    -Be willing to work some weekends

    -Have some knowledge of birds or birding

    -Free housing at our property in Lake Jackson, TX. Housing has private bedroom, shared kitchen, shared bath, and shared living space with at least one other intern.

    -Weekly stipend of $100

     

    Time-frame and location:

    • Internships are about six months in duration, with some flexibility depending on the intern’s availability

    • Work will largely take place at our headquarters property in Lake Jackson TX, with some work around the Houston/Galveston region. Interns will have work space at GCBO headquarters.
