Description: We are seeking two (2) technicians to assist with a project focusing on wild turkey reproductive ecology. Field work is expected to start January 1, 2020 and run through July 31, 2020 though these dates are flexible. The project will specifically be focusing on chronology of turkey gobbling, turkey movements, space use, nesting, and brood rearing in relationship to hunting on the landscape. The role of the technician will be assisting with turkey trapping, radio-telemetry, habitat sampling, acoustic surveying, and data recording and processing. In order to accomplish these tasks, technicians will work both independently and as part of a small crew. The project will run from early January 2020 through late July. The research will be conducted on two study sites: B. F. Grant Memorial Forest and Cedar Creek WMA in the Piedmont region of central Georgia. Athens (home of the University of Georgia) is roughly an hour away, and Atlanta is 1-2 hours away.
Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants that have a B.S. in wildlife ecology or related field. Competitive candidates will be expected to: (1) Have previous field experience that includes animal capture and tagging. (2) Have previous experience with radio telemetry and wildlife tracking. (3) Have previous experience with GIS. (4) Have strong interpersonal skills as daily interaction with landowners, hunters, state agency personnel, and other stake holders will occur. (5) Work early mornings and late nights and weekends when necessary. (6) Have experience operating 4wd vehicles and ATV's. (7) Have experience with vegetation sampling and surveys. (8) Have experience with climbing tree stands and doesn’t have a fear of heights.
