The Coastal Conservation Research Program (CCRP) offers a 10-week summer internship program for undergraduate students hosted at The Wetlands Institute on the Cape May Peninsula of southern New Jersey. Located on 6,000 acres of coastal salt marsh and in close proximity to Atlantic coast barrier island and Delaware Bay beaches, The Wetlands Institute promotes research, education, and conservation through a variety of community-engagement projects, educational programs, and field studies related to coastal birds, diamondback terrapins, horseshoe crabs, and coastal and wetland ecosystem dynamics.
For more than 20 years, hundreds of college and university students from over 100 academic institutions throughout the United States and abroad have participated in CCRP as research interns. Research interns work closely with research scientists on a wide variety of projects, participate in outreach activities, conduct independent research projects, and present results at our Annual Intern Symposium.
In 2019, CCRP research interns will have the opportunity to participate in projects that may include:
· Diamondback Terrapin Research and Conservation
· Delaware Bay Horseshoe Crab Research and Conservation
· Surveys of Breeding Birds in Coastal Habitats
· Wetland Condition Monitoring in the Coastal Salt Marshes
Research interns will receive a stipend ($160/week). Limited housing is available in Institute dorms. Personal transportation is required.
