CENTRAL VALLEY WATERFOWL TECHNICIANS WANTED!
We are looking to hire 4 folks this year to fill out 2 crews for upland nesting work throughout the Central Valley of California. This should be an awesome experience for anyone interested in waterfowl and breeding ecology.
The announcements that they require us to send out are pretty boiler plate, so just to provide a bit more information on the position:
- Positions are based in Dixon, CA (so getting paid Bay Area rates!), and successful applicants should expect to be out searching and monitoring nests in Central Valley of California from early April – late June.
- While 90% of the birds we find will be waterfowl, depending on the exactly location, we do find and monitor other upland nesting birds such as turkey, ring-necked pheasant, northern harrier, and American bittern.
- We will also catch and band hens on the nest during the summer.
- We will provide training on ATVs, trailering, and CPR/First Aid
- Applications are being accepted now and recruitment closes on November 26. This is NOT through USAJobs, so please follow the instructions provided in the announcements on how to apply.
- Most of these positions will be filled at GS-5 level, so we encourage you to apply to both positions.
Assuming a good applicant pool, we are looking to review applications and do interviews around the week of Dec. 10.
If there are any specific questions on the positions, please feel free to contact me directly (mherzog@usgs.gov).
