Conduct point counts of breeding birds in the central Great Basin (central Nevada) and western Great Basin (western Nevada and east slope of the Sierra Nevada). Assist with nest surveys, vegetation measurements, and phenology tracking. Camp in the backcountry most nights (usually near vehicles). Spectacular and birdy landscapes with few other humans. Position contributes to long-term research on responses of breeding birds to changes in climate and land use and to disturbances such as wildfire.
Apply by 21 January 2022 for full consideration. Closing date is 1 February 2022. Existing ability to identify western birds by sound and sight, and backcountry camping and driving experience, are essential qualifications.
