    Description:

    We are seeking a technician to assist in conducting avian point count surveys. The focus of this project is to assess grassland avian biodiversity in response to land management practices geared towards providing habitat for Northern Bobwhite set in place by Natural Resource Conservation Services (NRCS). The successful applicant will conduct bird point count and vegetation surveys throughout southern Iowa. Field housing and a work vehicle will be provided.

    Qualifications:

    ·       Ability to identify grassland birds by sight and sound

    ·       Able to hike up to 5 miles in rugged terrain

    ·       Able to work early mornings, 5-6 days a week

    ·       Can work in varying weather conditions

    ·       U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record

    ·       Ability to record and manage data

    ·       Can share clean and respectful living quarters

    ·       Maintain a positive attitude in the field

    ·       Good communication skills

    ·       Attention to detail

    Preferred Qualifications:

    ·       Has previously conducted bird point count surveys

    ·       Has previously conducted vegetation surveys

    ·       Knowledge of native Iowa grassland plants
