  • Bendire's Thrasher Field Technician

    We are seeking 1 field technician to assist a graduate student with a study of breeding and movement ecology of Bendire’s thrasher in relation to energy development in Southwest New Mexico. This position is a great opportunity to work with a unique and extremely imperiled species in a beautiful location, with easy access to outdoor recreation and some of the best birding in the country.

     

    Project Schedule:

    Field work will be conducted from March 1 through June 30, 2025.

     

    Compensation:

    The pay rate for this position will be $2400/mo, and housing will be provided in Lordsburg, NM.

     

    Responsibilities:

    The technician will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of field work, specifically mist netting, banding, and radio tagging birds, relocating captured birds using radio telemetry, nest searching, and conducting point counts. The position will also involve setup and maintenance of Motus stations.

     

    Qualifications:

    Applicants should be proficient in Southwestern bird identification by both sight and sound. Previous experience with mist netting and banding, radio telemetry, and nest searching is strongly preferred. Applicants must have great attention to detail, and be able to accurately collect and enter data. In addition, applicants must be comfortable living in close quarters in a remote location, and working long hours in a hot, dry environment around rattlesnakes and other potentially hazardous wildlife. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license.
