    Job Description:  Surveying and monitoring of nesting Piping Plovers, Least Terns, Black Skimmers, and American Oystercatchers along the Atlantic Coast of New Jersey. Duties including locating nests and broods; band resighting; constructing predator exclosures; fencing, posting and patrolling nesting areas; data collection and entry; educating beachgoers. The 40-hour workweek includes 5 weekdays prior to Memorial Day, and then 3 weekdays and both weekend days for the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

    Requirements:   A degree in wildlife biology, ecology or related field (applicants with at least three years towards a relevant degree will also be considered). Previous experience working with beach-nesting birds and/or working on conservation issues with local communities a plus. The ability to work cooperatively with the beach-going public and the capacity to effectively communicate with people with differing views in a calm and rational manner is essential. Applicant should be in good physical condition, willing to work independently and as part of a team, organized, disciplined and enthusiastic about working to help protect NJ’s endangered beach-nesting birds. 

    Compensation:  Salary +/- $11.00-$15.00 per hour (depending on education and experience). Use of personal vehicle may be required in some circumstances – mileage will be reimbursed if use of personal vehicle is necessary. Housing available for Cape May/Atlantic County position (commensurate with a reduced hourly rate), housing NOT available for Ocean County position.
