GBBO is hiring avian field technicians to conduct riparian surveys in the Owen's River Valley, CA. The goals of this project are to assess the breeding populations of riparian birds with an emphasis on Southwestern Willow Flycatcher, Least Bell's Vireo, and Yellow-billed Cuckoo, and determine nest predation of Brown-headed Cowbirds. Responsibilities include conducting point counts, nest searching, and vegetation surveys as well as data entry in Excel. In addition to riparian bird work, technicians will be conducting mortality surveys at a nearby solar facility. Housing and vehicles are provided. Housing is shared and applicants are expected to work well with others in close quarters for long periods of time, and must follow the GBBO COVID-safety policy.
Applicants must be able to identify all western riparian bird species by sight and sound, and have previous experience conducting point counts. Other desirable qualifications include:
*previous work with Southwestern Willow Flycatcher
*experience using ESRI data collection platforms such as Collector
*experience with 4x4 and off-road vehicles
*experience conducting mortality surveys
