Great Basin Bird Observatory is hiring avian field technicians to complete point count surveys among other duties along the Owens Valley River outside of Bishop, CA. Responsibilities include:
*sunrise point counts
*SWFL territory and next monitoring
There is additional opportunities for one technician to gain experience conducting mortality surveys at a nearby solar facility.
The positions may require long days in the field in potentially hot and windy conditions. Housing will be provided, but some camping may be necessary throughout the season. Positions run from April 20th to mid-July with the possibility of extension.
All applications should have previous experience conducting point counts and should be able to identify all western birds by sight and sound. Additional desired qualifications include experience nest monitoring, working with Southwestern Willow Flycatchers, data collection using ESRI collector app, and the ability to work and live in close quarters with others. Some 4x4 driving may be necessary on unmaintained or sandy roads. Experience conducting mortality monitoring surveys is also a plus if interested in that work as well. Applicants must be able to work well with others as well as independently.
