(6) Marsh Bird Field Technicians

6 technicians needed from approximately March 15, 2023, to July 15, 2023, for a study of marsh birds along the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. The purpose of the project is to study marsh bird response to marsh restoration. Point counts and nest searching for Seaside Sparrows and Clapper Rails will be conducted at restoration sites and islands off the coast. Access to sites requires navigating across open water to remote locations and operating motorized boats. Other duties include the following: sampling vegetation, daily data entry and management, and maintaining field equipment. Teams will be in daily communication with the crew lead and project manager. Some activities will be strenuous with conditions in salt marshes being hot, humid, and involving biting insects. The position will require walking in the marsh through potentially thick mud and dense vegetation. Housing will be provided. Salary of 2,080 per month. 

Previous experience with point counts, nest searching and monitoring, boat operation and maintenance, and towing trailers are desired but not required. Completion of the Mississippi BoatUS Foundation Boating Safety Certification Course is required preceding the start date.
