    • Employer: Clemson University
      Location: Clemson, South Carolina
      Country: United States
Last Date to Apply: No value
      Open Until Filled: Yes

The Project: The South Carolina Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit and the Department of Forestry and Environmental Conservation at Clemson University seek to employ a PostDoctoral Research Associate to conduct research on the ecology of seabirds in the Gulf of Mexico. As part of the Gulf of Mexico Marine Assessment Program for Protected Species (GoMMAPPS;https://www.boem.gov/gommapps/), our lab is conducting vessel-based surveys of seabirds throughout the northern Gulf with the intent of modeling distribution, abundance, and habitat use. Data collection was initiated in 2017 and will extend at least through 2019, and data are collected during research cruises of 14-20 days that occur throughout the annual cycle. GoMMAPPS also includes aerial surveys for seabirds, as well as surveys for marine mammals and sea turtles, and opportunities exist for collaboration among data streams. Research partners include Terra Mar Applied Sciences, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Requirements: We seek applicants who have a strong quantitative background with experience in modeling distribution and abundance of wildlife in marine ecosystems. Experience conducting vessel or aerial surveys is a plus, but is not required. Demonstrated ability to publish research in peer-reviewed journals is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the willingness and ability to work both in field and lab settings in a collaborative research environment are essential. Salary range is 45-50k/year.

To Apply: Applications must be submitted electronically and include a cover letter, CV, and contact information for at least three references. This position requires a PhD in the field of wildlife, zoology, marine science, or a related discipline. This is a two-year appointment with an anticipated start date between mid July and early September 2018. The PostDoc will be expected to work on campus at Clemson University, participate in research cruises as practicable, participate in team research meetings, manage and analyze data streams, and lead publication efforts. The scientist will be supervised by Dr. Patrick Jodice at the South Carolina Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit and will be an employee of Clemson University. International applications are welcome.
