Description: The postdoctoral fellow will be located at New Mexico State University, Las Cruces and will be part of a dynamic team (NMSU Drs. Martha Desmond and Tim Wright, USGS Dr. Abby Lawson, and LANL Dr. Jeanne Fair) formed from a newly funded USDA Hispanic Serving Institutions grant that mentors URM graduate and undergraduate student research on migratory birds and climate change with interests in drought, fire, avian health, and interactive anthropogenic effects. The postdoctoral fellow will have flexibility in research direction related to migratory birds and can join funded research related to effects of artificial light on migratory movements, Bendire’s Thrasher breeding/non-breeding ecology and movement including use of MOTUS, and pinyon jay ecology in relation to forest management and energy development. New Mexico State University is a Hispanic Serving Institution with a strong commitment to its diverse student body. The postdoctoral fellow will develop collaborative research and serve on mentorship teams for URM students.
Qualifications: PhD in Ecology or closely related field; demonstrated ability to publish research results; ability to follow through on project deliverables; experience with ornithological field methods; strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work independently and part of a collaborative team; experience designing and executing field research, ability to apply strong, cutting edge quantitative approaches to data analysis; demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in science.
