    Smithsonian Postdoctoral Fellowship available to 1) investigate the cost structure of Bird Friendly® Coffee certification along the global supply chain, 2) assess the costs and benefits of USDA Organic certification versus other means of limiting harmful agrochemicals on Bird Friendly Coffee farms, and 3) make recommendations about long-term sustainability of cost structure to growers and the Smithsonian’s Bird Friendly Coffee program. This work will involve international travel to Bird Friendly certified cooperatives and interaction with 3rd party certification partners. Requirements include a Ph.D. in applied economics, economics, environmental science or a related field with a focus on environmental management and policy, strong quantitative skills, fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish, and experience facilitating meetings with international stakeholders. Experience with coffee supply chains desired. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be based at the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center in Washington, DC and be co-advised by Dr. Miguel Gomez at the Cornell Dyson School of Applied Economics & Management. This two-year appointment starts in summer 2020 and includes a stipend of $51,000/year plus a $4000 annual Health Insurance reimbursement.
