    H. T. Harvey & Associates, an ecological consulting firm based in Northern California, is looking for a seasonal field biologist for a part-time or full-time position conducting nesting bird surveys starting in February 2021. The position is based in our San Francisco Bay Area office (Los Gatos, Santa Clara County).

    What you’ll do

    Our wildlife ecology team is a local industry leader known for our ecological expertise and high standard of excellence. As a field biologist, you will conduct nesting bird surveys to support compliance with project-specific requirements to protect active nests of migratory birds. This work includes conducting surveys, managing data and field notes, coordinating with on-site personnel to protect active nests, and monitoring active nests during work activities. In addition, you will have opportunities to participate in roosting bat surveys, woodrat surveys and relocations, surveys for special-status amphibians (e.g., California red-legged frogs and California tiger salamanders), and surveys/monitoring for other wildlife species.

    Required Skills and Experience 

    • Solid field experience
    • Strong bird identification skills and experience conducting nesting bird surveys and/or point counts
    • A curiosity about the natural world that includes ongoing personal development in local wildlife ecology and your area of expertise
    • Candidates with a strong academic background (and at least a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree) in biological studies, natural resources, wildlife management, wildlife biology, or an equivalent subject are preferred.

    This position requires the future employee to:

    • Hold a valid driver’s license with no major traffic violations or multiple minor violations
    • Work early morning hours regularly, and periodically work weekends when needed
    • Walk over varied terrain for surveys
    • Occasionally work in inclement weather when needed
    • Follow best practices for field safety
