    We have an opening in our Hawaii office for an experienced project manager / senior ecologist.  The work may be varied, but currently includes a focus on assisting clients with aspects of state and federal endangered species permitting; development and implementation of habitat conservation plans and project mitigation; ecological impacts of renewable energy development (wind, solar and marine hydrokinetic) and operation of existing facilities and infrastructure; and project planning and biological assessments.  The ideal candidate would have a clear understanding of consulting applications of environmental regulations and processes such as  state and federal ESA including HCP development and implementation; NEPA/HEPA; and permitting with DLNR, USACE, HDOH, etc.  Depending upon the skillset of the applicant and workload, duties may include supervising, and in some cases conducting, endangered species or rare plant studies; insect, bird, bat, and fish studies; onshore and offshore studies for renewable energy projects, mitigation and natural resource management plans; land management and conservation planning; basic ecological research, and supervision of others in the preparation of technical reports.  Other key responsibilities would include assisting with business development, marketing, proposal preparation, and office management. 

    Required qualifications: 

    • Advanced degrees in ecology, law, or planning (with solid ecological experience)
    • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in Hawaii is a must, with at least 3 years of management experience
    • Strong project management skills, including an ease with clients and strong organizational abilities for tracking project details, schedules, budgets, invoices, and subcontractors
    • Solid field experience, strong ecological knowledge, and experience in ecological consulting, particularly in Hawaii
    • Demonstrable technical writing ability
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
