Job Summary:
The Gamebird and Managed Ecosystems (GAME) Lab is seeking a Research Professional to serve as a project leader on a Northern Bobwhite project. The project will examine bobwhite ecology and restoration efforts on private lands in Missouri. The successful candidate will work with landowners and field technicians to coordinate research activities. This candidate will hire, train, and supervise seasonal field technicians. Work will involve quail trapping and radio-tagging, tracking birds via radio telemetry, vegetation surveys, data entry and management, and other duties as assigned. This position will require working non-typical hours, with morning and nighttime work needed at different times of the year. The successful candidate will work closely with Missouri Department of Conservation staff, private landowners, other partner agencies, and collaborating scientists at UGA. This position is grant-funded through June 2028, and may be renewed if funding is available.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s in natural resources science. Candidate needs to be highly motivated with the ability to work independently, plan ahead, and lead a field crew, including having a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualification: MS or higher in ecology, wildlife ecology, natural resource/wildlife management, or related field. Previous quail work experience is desirable.
Education, Experience, Licensure, and Certification required: Experience with ArcGIS, managing data, capture and tagging of birds, and using radio telemetry. Must have the ability/knowledge of safely driving 4x4 trucks and off-road vehicles like UTVs.

60 | Field research – trapping and tagging quail, veg surveys, tracking quail.
15 | Supervising field technicians – hiring, training and supervision of field researchers.
10 | Data entry and management.
10 | Research coordination with sponsors, report writing to sponsor and PI.
5 | Other duties as assigned.
