    KFBRP PROGRAM & DATA ASSISTANT – ID# 224443.

    Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), Kauai Forest Bird Recovery Project (KFBRP), located in Hanapepe, Kauai. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

    MONTHLY SALARY:  $3,654/Mon. 

    DUTIES:  Provides general program support duties required to effectively maintain a forest bird research and recovery program. Enters and helps manage project data, including SD cards and biological samples, and assists with data analysis to evaluate and facilitate fieldwork. Helps maintain and organize office files, including travel arrangements, receipts, and tracking petty cash. Performs inventory and maintenance of project materials and equipment, researching vendors, and receiving and tracking orders. Assists in preparing correspondence and editing reports and publications. Participates in outreach and public relations exercises. Assists with field work, particularly rodent and mosquito control. 

    PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION

    Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college.

    EXPERIENCE

    One to three (1-3) years of experience with accounting and purchasing experience. (Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in economics or the sciences may substitute for experience.) One to three (1-3) years’ experience managing data files and conducting simple data summaries. Up to one (0-1) year experience in public outreach.

    KNOWLEDGE

    Working knowledge of accounting and purchasing practices. Basic understanding of scientific methodology, ecology and conservation biology.

    ABILITIES & SKILLS

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office word processing and spreadsheet and database applications and Adobe Acrobat; and use and maintenance of internet, scanner, phone, and filing systems. Proficient in ArcPro or AGOL. Ability to multi-task and prioritize various projects. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally. Ability to work off-trail in remote areas using GPS, compass and maps to navigate. Must possess excellent organizational skills. Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Conditions: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check. Must possess the American Red Cross Certification in First Aid/CPR. Must be able to complete basic helicopter safety course (A100) and external sling load (A219) course within twelve (12) months from date of hire. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months. 

    PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS

    Able to lift and carry twenty (20) pounds.

    POLICY/REGULATORY REQUIREMENT

    As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies, procedures, and trainings and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawai‘i's and/or business entity's policies, procedures, and trainings.  Violation of RCUH's, UH's, or business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.). 

    SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:    

    Appreciation for biological resources, especially pertaining to Hawaiian ecosystems and endangered species. Knowledge and experience with RCUH policies and procedures. Experience working in an office to support biological field activities. Experience developing and maintaining data collection apps (e.g., Survey 123). Experience processing biological samples. Experience in developing and delivering educational and outreach materials for the classroom and print and digital media. Experience preparing written reports based on data interpretation.
