    International Conservation Intern (Fall)          

                                                                 Defenders of Wildlife

     

    Defenders of Wildlife, an environmental nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection of native wild animals and plants in their natural habitats, is recruiting for an International Conservation Intern.  This role is ideal for current law or masters students with a commitment to a career in wildlife conservation.  The position reports to the Senior International Counsel.

     

    The internship is designed to provide a wide range of administrative and programmatic experience on international conservation issues of national significance.  Our international program covers a wide range of international environmental issues including international wildlife trade in various species from and to Latin America, illegal wildlife trade in the United States and Latin America and the Caribbean, and foreign endangered species. 

     

    Duties:

     

    Conduct research and analysis on a wide range of programmatic topics, including focus on

    International Environmental Policy

    International Convention regarding Wildlife

    Wildlife Trade

    Comparison and definition of international policy and conflict regarding endangered and threatened species, with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean

    Drafting policy recommendations, announcements, analysis and reports

    Additional programmatic support, including administrative tasks

     

    Qualifications:

     

    ·         Current student enrolled in a law or masters program with demonstrated interest/experience in international environmental issues;

     

    ·         Demonstrated commitment to the conservation of biological diversity and protection of wildlife;

     

    ·         Strong writing, research, and communication skills;

     

    ·         Attention to detail;

     

    ·         Fluency or very high mastery of Spanish Language

     

    The intern will be expected to work at Defenders of Wildlife’s office in Washington DC. 

     

    Compensation:

    Unpaid. Students are encouraged to seek funding opportunities through their schools or outside sources.
