    The Association of Field Ornithologists (AFO) is seeking applicants for a part-time communications and marketing specialist. The person in this position will help the AFO enhance its online presence, which will include publicizing research that has been supported and published by the AFO, increasing awareness of grants that the AFO provides to students and others, and promoting AFO’s online research supply business. 

    This is an opportunity for remote work as an independent contractor for ~10 hours per week for the duration of 2023, with the possibility of increasing weekly hours in subsequent years. Compensation is budgeted at a rate of $30 per hour.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    1. the desire to help an ecologically-oriented non-profit reach more members and deliver mission-driven messages,
    2. familiarity with Wordpress and similar content management systems,
    3. the ability to communicate scientific research in a clear and relatable way to a broad audience, and
    4. competency with Adobe Creative Suite and/or other graphic design applications.

    Proficiency in Spanish (or other language) is desirable but not required. 

    AFO is a non-profit, membership-driven society of professional and amateur ornithologists that has been promoting the scientific study and conservation of birds in their natural habitats since 1922. AFO owns and operates Avinet Research Supplies, an online business that makes and sells mist nets and other field equipment to bird and bat researchers. AFO also publishes the open-access Journal of Field Ornithology, a peer-reviewed scientific journal that features articles describing new research into avian conservation and ecology, life history and behavior, and field techniques.
