Bargas Environmental Consulting, LLC is seeking high-quality candidates to fill As-Needed Field Biologist positions in the Santa Barbara, California area, as well as locations throughout southern California. We offer competitive hourly pay, opportunities for advancement, and a positive, supportive work environment. Bargas provides innovative environmental solutions for a developing California through seasoned leadership, innovative project management, and exceptional teamwork. We are growing – come join us!

What we are looking for: We are seeking detailed, hard-working, and knowledgeable (wildlife, plants, and waters) As-Needed Field Biologists (i.e., hourly) to join our team in one of three capacities:

    • Assistant Field Biologist: an early career position, generally with less than two years of experience. The Assistant Field Biologist is responsible for conducting quality field surveys, understanding and implementing any required protocols for those surveys, and reporting the results of those surveys accurately and on-time. The Assistant Field Biologist is a developmental position and will be provided various opportunities to train with more senior staff. Successful candidates should have a minimum of a B.S. in Environmental Studies or an appropriate biological science with a demonstrated background of relevant field projects.
    • Field Biologist: a minimum of two years of experience, dependent upon having shown the ability to perform the responsibilities of Assistant Field Biologist. The Field Biologist is responsible for conducting quality field surveys, generally and within their area of expertise (e.g., botanical, species-specific), understanding and implementing any required protocols for those surveys, and reporting the results of those surveys accurately and on-time. A Field Biologist is highly encouraged to pursue opportunities and resources to develop skills that increase their field capabilities and understanding of the fundamentals of the environmental laws that underpin the consulting field. With the Field Biologist role comes increased expectations for understanding the scope of work, providing quality work product, and getting it right the first time.
    • Senior Field Biologist: a mid- to late-career position, generally with greater than six years of experience-dependent upon having shown the ability to perform the responsibilities of Field Biologist. Senior Field Biologist has experience in fieldwork that may include specialized permits, licenses, or certifications. Similar to the Assistant Field Biologist and Field Biologist, most of the work conducted by a Senior Field Biologist is in the field. The Field Biologist is responsible for conducting quality field surveys, understanding, and implementing any required protocols for those surveys, and reporting the results of those surveys accurately and on-time. The Senior Field Biologist comes with high expectations for understanding the scope of work, providing quality work product, and getting it right the first time. Work at this level is often characterized by independent use of techniques and methodologies. In the absence of full-time Bargas staff on a given field survey with a team, the Senior Field Biologist is expected to take a leading role with more junior biologists and coordinate extensively with Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers. The expertise of the Senior Field Biologist may also be called upon for document preparation, or other needs depending upon the skills/aptitudes of the Senior Field Biologist.

Our array of project work and clients include utilities, land development, transportation, and other infrastructure projects.
