An internship with Rocky Mountain Wildlife Alliance is intended to be a learning experience focused on all aspects of animal care, educational outreach, and nature-based learning. Interns will learn skills such as animal handling techniques, cleaning and sterilization procedures, habitat enrichment, diets, feeding methods, educational programming and will assist the Educational Coordinator in all aspects of daily care for our education ambassadors. You may also have the opportunity to attend seminars and workshops focused on animal topics and career building.
We strive to teach based on intern goals, but also to provide a well-rounded experience. Our internships are intended to provide experience and on-the-job training so that you leave us with a good foundation and experience to take to your future careers.

Expectations
Physical labor is a significant part of working with wildlife, and can include dealing with feces and working in small, smelly, and awkward spaces. This means that many tasks will be dirty and difficult. However, there is rarely a task without educational value. Interns are expected to take on any assigned task and learn from it. If the educational value is unknown, please ask. Interns are expected to be punctual, and to notify supervisors well in advance if a shift must be missed. Interns are expected to be self-motivated and to keep busy when supervisors have not specifically designated a task.
Time Commitment
For in-state internship requests we offer part-time (24 hours a week) and full-time (32 hours a week) internships for 3 months. Interns are expected to be here for full 8 hour days. This provides a well-rounded experience of what goes on at Nature’s Educators. We will consider school related, out of state requests and special circumstances for a shorter amount of time on a case-by-case basis.
