    The Department of Fish, Wildlife and Conservation Ecology at New Mexico State University has an opening for a motivated student with strong quantitative skills and an interest in technology to fill a PhD position examining the effects of artificial light on migrating birds in Southern New Mexico. This is a collaborative project between New Mexico State University, White Sands Missile Range, Colorado State University and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.  This student will be involved in monitoring avian migration and mortality across sites with various types of lighting and light intensity using NEXRAD and acoustic monitoring. Sites will include shielded and unshielded lights and sites with no lights. Start date is flexible but summer of 2021 is preferred.

    Qualifications: BS in Wildlife, ecology or related field, MS preferred. The ideal candidate will have solid avian identification skills, previous experience with migratory birds, demonstrate quantitative skills, GIS and have strong communication skills.

    Compensation: $24,000/ yr + tuition and health insurance
