    MacArthur Green specialises in ornithology, ecology, hydrology and peat services, primarily focussing on renewable energy projects and grid networks. We pride ourselves on our technical capability and pragmatic, problem solving approach. We need an enthusiastic, knowledgeable Ornithologist to join our small, friendly team.

    Things are all a little strange in the world just now, but our hope is that this role will be based in our office on the banks of the River Kelvin in Glasgow.

    We work for some of the largest renewable developers, such as Vattenfall, ScottishPower Renewables, Scottish and Southern Energy Renewables, EDF, BayWa, RES UK & Ireland and Brookfield, with projects onshore as well as offshore. We also work for statutory agencies such as The Crown Estate, the Scottish Government, NatureScot, Natural England and the UK Government. 

    The ideal candidate will have minimum of two years of relevant ornithology work experience. This role has the potential to progress to consultant level and therefore will include both office work and survey work. You will have a passion for working outdoors in any weather as well as a desire to progress your career through office-based work.     You will have experience of, and will carry out the following surveys:

    ·         Vantage Point Surveys, Breeding Bird Surveys, Black Grouse Surveys, Winter Walkovers

    ·         Schedule 1 Annex 1 Surveys

    ·         Other specialist ornithological surveys as required

    This role will include office-based work such as:

    ·         Data entry

    ·         GIS

    ·         Technical reporting

    ·         Other business administration as required

    You will also assist with other types of surveys (training will be provided as necessary):

    ·         Bat surveys;

    ·         Water quality monitoring;

    ·         Peat depth and vegetation surveys.

    The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in ecology, zoology or related subject, or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience, with the following skills and experience:

    ·         Experience of undertaking ornithology surveys and recording data accurately.

    ·         A working knowledge of ornithological guidance, legislation and policy.

    ·         An understanding of the environmental planning system in relation to ornithological impact assessments.

    ·         Strong IT skills including Word and Excel.

    ·         A working knowledge of GIS software (ArcGIS or QGIS).

    ·         Full UK driving license (essential).

    ·         Strong interpersonal skills.

    ·         A flexible and proactive approach to work.

    ·         Self-motivated and keen to learn.

    An attractive employment package is available with a competitive salary dependent on experience. You must live within reasonable commuting distance of the Glasgow office.
