    The Department of Fish, Wildlife and Conservation Ecology at New Mexico State University has an opening for a motivated student with strong quantitative skills to fill a MS or PhD position examining migration ecology in the southwest and particularly, the effects of light pollution on migrating birds. This is a collaborative project between New Mexico State University and the Department of Defense.  This student will be responsible for oversight of a field crew to monitor study areas for bird carcasses during migration, will participate in a migratory bird monitoring network and will have the opportunity to use radar and other state of the art tools to monitor avian migration.  This position will start in January 2021.

    Qualifications: BS in Wildlife, ecology or related field. The ideal candidate will have solid avian identification skills, previous experience handling passerines, demonstrate quantitative skills and have strong communication skills. Demonstrated skills taking blood samples from birds, using GIS and experience with R statistical software would also be an asset.
