The Parasites and Plastic Ecology Lab at Frostburg State University is taking applicant inquiries to fill a M.S. Assistant position in the Department of Biology - frostburg.edu/academics/colleges-and-departments/department-of-biology/program-requirements.php. The successful applicant will enroll in a M.S. program for Wildlife/Fisheries Biology or Applied Ecology & Conservation Biology. This funded position entails the oversight of specimen collection, maintenance/culture, and deposition (invertebrates, fishes, and bird hosts) and a major component of the research project includes trophic behavioral experiments (as they relate to consumed plastics and parasitic infections) over the summer of 2020. Additional opportunities for plastics chemistry and the inclusion of new hosts (seabirds and/or passerines) or ecological systems can be available for the second year of study with supplemental funding likely but not guaranteed. Compensation includes a teaching assistantship that provides a stipend and a tuition waiver. The initial field and laboratory work will occur prior to official enrollment in the graduate program. Thus, an additional stipend for a summer contract from 06/01/2020 through 08/15/2020 will supplement the first year of the GA. Additional opportunities for all-expense paid travel to field locations and for conference attendance is also available.
