The Science and Mathematics Faculty in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts on the Polytechnic campus at Arizona State University invites applications for a Lecturer for the 2019-2020 academic year. The successful candidate will provide instruction in animal biology and be part of a team that includes Applied Biology faculty and other instructional staff dedicated to quality instruction. Lecturers are responsible for course design and implementation, including oversight and/or instruction of recitation and laboratory components. Course assignments are at the graduate/undergraduate levels and may occur in a variety of modalities (on-line, on-ground, hybrid) on the Polytechnic campus. The course load is determined by the faculty head and typically consist of four classes per semester. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in service to the institution and profession as appropriate. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure eligible position renewable on an academic year basis contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university. Requirements
Required Qualifications:
PhD or terminal degree in Applied Biology or closely related field at time of appointment
Evidence of two years’ post-secondary teaching experience
Evidence of effectiveness in instructional activities, e.g., student/peer evaluations, mentoring
Excellent English written and spoken communication skills
Stated commitment to meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated teaching experience in animal biology
Experience mentoring students in research or nontraditional learning-based projects
Experience in course management systems such as Canvas and/or online homework systems
Experience working with student organizations
Experience working in a collaborative environment and across disciplines
