The Natural Resource Institute at Texas A&M University is seeking an individual to serve as project team lead in support of an ongoing, long-term study of the population ecology and habitat use of the federally endangered Golden-cheeked Warbler. The field work is conducted at Joint Base San Antonio (U.S. Air Force). The successful candidate will reside in San Antonio, Texas. The work includes counting, mapping, banding, and assessing habitat use of the warbler, with additional work on the black-capped vireo. Duties also will include involvement with other ongoing project activities, including survey and management of quail, turkeys, and feral hogs. Responsibilities include hiring, training, and managing a seasonal field crew; managing data entry and quality control; data analyses; and report preparation. The successful candidate will also work closely with JBSA natural resource and other military personnel. Opportunities will be made available to publish scientific papers and attend professional meetings.
Competitive applicants will have an M.S. degree in wildlife, ecology, and related fields, or equivalent in terms of experience, and have additional (outside the classroom) field experience. Experience gathering, organizing, and analyzing data required, along with oral presentations at professional meetings, and previous publication experience desirable. Experience with working with government agency personnel desirable. Must have a valid U.S. Driver's License.
Starting salary ranges between $35,000 and $40,000 annually depending on qualifications; includes health benefits.
