    The Department of Natural Resources and the Environment in the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture at the University of New Hampshire is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Wildlife Ecology and Management. This is a full time (9 month) tenure track position with teaching, research, outreach/engagement and service responsibilities consistent with the land-grant mission of the University of New Hampshire and the New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station. The position has an anticipated start date of August 2020.

    We seek applicants who will deliver vibrant, high-quality teaching and develop a high-impact research program in terrestrial vertebrate wildlife ecology that addresses critical management and conservation questions. Strong quantitative skills and an integrative or innovative approach to management-relevant questions in wildlife ecology are required. We encourage applicants who will develop a research program that includes local or regional field studies to address broadly relevant issues in wildlife ecology, conservation, and management. Preference will be given to candidates whose taxonomic and research foci complement that of existing faculty in the department and college, and who will bring new methodologies and disciplinary training to complement existing departmental expertise. Demonstrated research interest in a breadth of study systems, research questions, and conservation and management issues is desirable, as is the ability to collaborate broadly within the Department and the College. 

    Preferred applicants will conduct research relevant to state and federal agencies in the Northeast, as well as in other regions or internationally.  The successful candidate is expected to develop an extramurally funded research program and to engage stakeholders, including state and federal agency biologists and natural resource managers. Preferred candidates must demonstrate evidence of a commitment to teaching excellence and undergraduate and graduate training. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate courses in the Wildlife and Conservation Biology major and may include a graduate level course consistent with the candidate's area of expertise and with departmental and college needs. The successful candidate will also be expected to mentor graduate and undergraduate students, including engaging undergraduate students in field-based research opportunities.

    The Wildlife and Conservation Biology major is a popular and growing program in the interdisciplinary Department of Natural Resources and the Environment. The University of New Hampshire is a Carnegie R1 institution, providing comprehensive, high-quality undergraduate programs and graduate programs of distinction. UNH is located in Durham on a 188-acre campus surrounded by University-owned woodlands and agricultural land, 60 miles north of Boston and 8 miles from the Atlantic coast, and is convenient to New Hampshire's lakes and mountains. Student enrollment consists of 13,000 undergraduate and 2,400 graduate students, with a full-time faculty of over 600, offering 90 undergraduate and more than 70 graduate programs.

    Acceptable Minimum Qualifications:

    Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Wildlife Ecology or a closely related field. We seek applicants with a demonstrated commitment to promoting excellence in achieving racial, ethnic, gender, and cultural diversity.
