The Department of Biology at Connecticut College seeks applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor in the area of  animal ecology to start in July of 2020.  Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in both teaching and research.  The Biology Department is committed to active scholarship, equity pedagogy, and innovative teaching practices.  A Ph.D. is required by the time of hire and postdoctoral experience is preferred.

In addition to teaching courses in their area of expertise, the position also requires contributions in ecology related courses to our newly designed biology curriculum at the 100 and 200 level.  The successful candidate will develop an active research program that includes undergraduates.  A 750 acre Arboretum, with maintained and natural areas, and a history of studies in long term ecological change, surround the College.  The successful candidate will interact with the faculty in the Botany Department and the Environmental Studies Program.  The Biology Department is located in a newly renovated science building.  A competitive start-up package will be offered.

Connecticut College is a private, highly selective institution with a demonstrated commitment to outstanding faculty teaching and research.  Recognizing that intellectual vitality and diversity are inseparable, the College has embarked on a significantly successful initiative to diversify its faculty, student body and curriculum.  The College seeks creative scholars excited about working in a liberal arts setting, with its strong focus on engaged teaching, participation in shared governance, and active involvement in an institution-wide advancement of diversity.  Tenure-track faculty members teach a 3-2 load (2-2 in the first year).  In addition to providing ongoing strong support for teaching and research, the College offers the following resources for pre-tenured faculty: a supplementary research fund and a semesters sabbatical at full salary after a successful third-year review.  (For additional information on faculty resources, see https://www.conncoll.edu/employment/faculty-resources/.

Applicants should provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statements of teaching philosophy and research interests, and three recent letters of recommendation.  All materials should be submitted online through Interfolio (https://apply.interfolio.com/70028).

Review of applications will begin on November 15, 2019 and continue until the position is filled.  Questions about the position or the submission process should be addressed to Phillip Barnes, Chair of the Biology Department and Chair of the Search Committee, at ptbar@conncoll.edu.
