On Dec. 24, President Biden signed legislation that designed the Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) as the United States' official national bird. While the Bald Eagle has long been considered a national symbol, the recent bill makes it official. Read the bill here

Long heralded as an Endangered Species Act success story, after its recovery from the ravages of DDT, the Bald Eagle now faces population declines due to highly pathogenic avian influenza.
