Dear Elective Members and Fellows of the AOS -

Nominations for new Elective Members and Fellows of the American Ornithological Society are due this Friday, 17 November. We strongly encourage you and your colleagues to consider nominating deserving ornithologists for these society-wide categories of recognition.

- Elective Members are typically early- to mid-career ornithologists who have earned their terminal academic degree, have been members of the AOS for about five or more years, participate in AOS meetings, have published at least five ornithological papers, and have made noteworthy contributions to ornithology through additional publications, service, conservation, teaching and training, and other efforts.

You must be an Elective Member or Fellow to nominate a candidate for Elective Member.

- Fellows are typically mid- to late-career ornithologists who have been long-time members of the AOS, and who have made significant contributions to ornithology and the AOS during their career, through their science, conservation, teaching, training, society activities, and other significant efforts.

You must be a Fellow and an active member to nominate a candidate for Fellow.

Both Elective Members and Fellows are honorary membership categories and recognize significant contributions to our disciplines and to the Society. Elective Members and Fellows also play a role in the governance of the AOS.

To nominate a colleague, please read and fill out the 2018 nomination form, and send your nominations to Jack Dumbacher (jdumbacher@calacademy.org) and/or Andy Jones (ajones@cmnh.org) by 17 November.

As always, we encourage you to nominate candidates that honor the breadth of diversity in our membership. Last year, thanks to the effort our members made to nominate colleagues, we welcomed the largest and most diverse classes of Elective Members and Fellows to date. The list of Elective Members and Fellows can be viewed here on the AOS website.

Thanks for helping recognize some of the major contributors to our society and discipline.

Sincerely,

Jack Dumbacher
Chair, Nominations Committee
