John Faaborg
Dear AOU Member: As promised, I would like to keep you up to date on planning efforts for the Society for Ornithology. You may recall that we had a Council meeting in Dallas this past February and met with presidents of the other ornithological societies in the Americas to present a vision for SFO. We requested these societies indicate an interest to further plan SFO by 15 April. As a result, the Cooper Ornithological Society, Association of Field Ornithologists, and Waterbird Society have joined us in our planning efforts between now and the NAOC in August. Participation in planning does not indicate a commitment to join SFO. Rather, it indicates an interest to develop the society. Representatives to SFO for AOU include: Sue Haig (governance), Stan Senner (governance), Tom Martin (publications), and Jim Herkert (finances) There will be several opportunities for AOU members to hear presentations and voice support or concern for SFO at the NAOC. Thus, please be sure to come to Vancouver. In the meantime, please contact me or committee members if you have questions or points to discuss. Sincerely, John Faaborg President American Ornithologists' Union
