MAPS (Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship) workshop: Wednesday, August 3 through Sunday, August 7.

The workshop will begin before dawn on Wednesday (8/3) and end Sunday (8/7) at noon. Participants will want to arrive Tuesday evening (8/2) prior to the workshop for introductions. The majority of the subsequent five days will be spent in the field with live birds; however, these sessions will be complemented with some afternoon or evening presentations. Both presentations and field experience will cover MAPS protocol and serve as a primer for NABC (North American Banding Council) Bander Certification. Field experiences will include extracting, ageing, and sexing birds captured at Powdermill and a MAPS station in the Pittsburgh region. There is space available for 1 individual with no prior banding experience and 4 or 5 individuals who are already comfortable extracting birds from mist nets. Preference will be given to those working at MAPS stations and/or those wishing to improve their ability to extract and age birds using molt limits. The cost is $650 per person and on site lodging (with kitchen) and breakfast is included. This workshop will be NABC-approved.
