Vulture decline could help spread wildlife diseases

Vultures are declining worldwide. There are numerous potential ecological effects of their decline. Researchers found that in the absence of vultures, carcasses persisted longer, more mammalian scavengers visited carcasses and stayed longer, and the potential for disease transmission at the carcass increased almost 3-fold.
