Salary: $650
Start Date: 09/14/2015

Description: The Intermountain Bird Observatory is offering an introductory raptor banding workshop near Boise, Idaho from September 14-18, 2015.

The workshop will concentrate primarily on safe handling of live raptors, banding techniques, and an overview of trap types (bow net, dho gaza, bal chatri, mist net). September is a peak time in southern Idaho for raptor migration and the workshop will be held at Boise Peak in the Boise Foothills which supports one of the largest known raptor migrations in the western U.S. during autumn. IBO has counted and banded raptors at this location for 21 years.

Qualifications: We developed the introductory workshop for folks with little to no raptor banding experience. This workshop would be a great opportunity for students interested in raptor ecology. The workshop is also well suited for birders, naturalists, biological consultants, and anyone interested in learning more about raptor identification, trapping or banding. Participants will gain experience with raptor trapping, handling and banding techniques, however they should not expect to become a certified bander from this workshop.
