Fern Davies Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 This is a tough one to write because it is impossible to describe Bob, and because he was a personal friend. I met Bob after my husband spent a summer with Bob in the Queen Charlotte Islands, collecting birds for the University of Alaska Museum of the North. He was a character, he was unique, he was a force field, he had no boundaries...all of which sounds like a rather forceful person and yet he was gentle and warm. He was always true to himself yet never rude or offensive. There was not one ounce of artifice and always, always humor. For a biographical sketch, there can be no better than Andy Johnson's introduction that accompanied an issue 2012 edition of Western Birds, a publication of the Western Field Ornithologists, that honored Bob. I was very lucky to have known Bob and will always miss him.
