Cara J Posted February 10, 2015 Share Posted February 10, 2015 The Wildlife Society has joined with six other scientific societies on a campaign to prompt the Obama administration to halt old-growth forest logging in the Tongass National Forest in Alaska. “Protecting old-growth forests on the Tongass is key to maintaining the productivity and resilience of the extraordinary fish and wildlife that have otherwise declined throughout their southern ranges in North America,” said Grant Hilderbrand, the president of TWS Alaska Chapter. TWS and the other organizations want the transition from logging old growth to secondary growth originally logged in the 1950s to speed up.
