9th Asian Raptor Research and Conservation Network Conference

The theme of this year’s symposium is “Global Raptor Migration – Better Monitoring for Conservation” The mission of ARRCN is the exchange of information among its members, to coordinate research on both resident and migratory species, and through training, education and improved public awareness to promote the conservation of raptors. CALL FOR PAPERS

We invite abstracts for Oral and Poster Presentations and short video films, based on original research on diurnal (Accipitriformes, Falconiformes) and nocturnal (Strigiformes) raptors from Asia, focused on the following topics: Conservation Biology, Ecology, Ethno-ornithology, Biogeography, Diversity, Migration, Taxonomy and molecular phylogeny, Pesticides, Lead poisoning and other threats, Rescue and rehabilitation, Bio-acoustics, Modelling & Bio-statistics, Conservation education, Status surveys, Captive breeding and husbandry, Species Protection, others.

The abstract for each contribution, whether intended as an oral presentation or a poster, should  be 250 to 300 words long, and submitted in English (as a .doc file in MS Word 2007–2010 version.) Send only one abstract per paper.

Oral presentations that are accepted should be accompanied by MS Power Point (2007–2010). and must be of no more than 10 + 3 minutes. Presentations brought on pen drive/CD/DVD should be deposited with the organizing committee at least one day prior to the date of presentation. All presentations shall be projected from the conference computer only.

- The following structure needs to be followed when submitting an abstract:

• Title – Font Times New Roman, 16 points, Bold type, centered

• Author – Font Times New Roman, 12 points, Bold type, centered

• Address – Font Times New Roman,14 points, Italics, centered

• Content – Font Times New Roman,12 points, Regular

• Subheading – Font Times New Roman,12 points, Bold type

• Keywords – Not more than 5 words

• Margins – left, right, top, and bottom 2.0 cm

- Each author may only submit a maximum of 5 abstracts.

- The name of the author presenting the paper must be underlined

- State each author’s name and institutional affiliations as well as the name, address, and e-mail address of the corresponding author.

- Abstracts containing previously presented data are eligible for submission.  However inclusion of updated data is encouraged.

- Please do not submit multiple copies of the same abstract.

- Notifications of acceptance will be sent together with instructions on the preparation of posters and information regarding projection facilities and scheduling to the abstract submitter.

All notifications regarding abstract status, including notifications regarding acceptance and scheduling will be sent to the corresponding author who will be responsible for informing the other authors about the status of the abstract.

The first author or a co-author is expected to attend the conference and present either an oral presentations or a poster. . The name of the person who will read the paper (if different from first author) should be mentioned. The presenting author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the content of the abstract before submission, and of all communications thereafter.

- Only abstracts of presenting authors who pay their registration fee by June 15, 2015 will be accepted. 

- Only the abstracts of registered presenting authors will be included in the program for oral presentation. The first author or co-author is required to be registered for poster presentation.

- All abstracts must be submitted and presented in proper English with accurate grammar and spelling of a quality suitable for publication.

- Upon submission, the abstract submitter confirms that the abstract has been previewed and that all information is correct, and accepts that the content of this abstract cannot be modified or corrected after final submission and is aware that it will be published exactly as submitted.

Poster Presentations:

Recommended poster size is 3 feet x 4 feet (width x height). Display facilities shall be provided. The posters should be attended by the authors during the time slot allocated for poster presentation.

Short Video Films:

Short documentaries on raptors on any of the subjects mentioned above are welcome. Preference will be given to conservation or culture related themes based on original research and creative presentation. Format should be .avi or other media files that shall play on Windows Media Player. The duration of the video shall be 12 minutes. If a long film (up to 30 mins) is to be shown, special arrangement can be made depending on the relevance of the subject and quality of work. Video should be submitted on a DVD.

Decision about acceptance:

The abstract may be accepted either as an oral or poster presentation depending on the relevance of research and availability of time. The decision of the scientific committee shall be final and binding.

- Abstract submission deadline: May 15, 2015.

- Notifications will be sent via email within: June 1, 2015.

- Early-bird discount deadline: March 31, 2015.

- Pre-registration for accepted presenter: May 1, 2015.
