Workshop: How can social media be used to explore coupled

socio-environmental systems?

The National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center (SESYNC) invites

applications from researchers and/or practitioners in environmental and/or

ecological fields to participate in a 2.5-day workshop exploring the ways

in which social media data (e.g., Twitter, Flickr, etc.) can be used to

investigate socio-environmental system dynamics and management. In

particular, this workshop will investigate the current state of and

identify unique challenges for using social media data to inform

socio-environmental research, and explore ways to leverage social media

data to investigate feedbacks between human and natural systems.

The workshop will be held at SESYNC in Annapolis, Maryland, July 28-30,

2014. Participant support will be provided to cover travel, lodging, and
