USFWS HQ relocating June 2014; esteemed colleague announces retirement

Recommended Posts

The national headquarters of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will soon move from North Fairfax Drive in the Ballston section of Alexandria to the Skyline Technology Center in the Bailey's Crossroad section of Falls Church. The General Services Administration estimated the 15-year lease will save the federal government more than $3.8 million over the course of the lease term. Unlike the three buildings in Ballston, the new location is not near a Metro station. The GSA documents do not mention the cost of a shuttle service from Metro stations but it has been rumored that such service will be offered.

The Ornithological Council has also learned that Susan Lawrence, a valued and esteemed colleague in the Division of Migratory Bird Management, will soon retire. Susan, a permits coordinator, has been open to the concerns of the ornithological community and has always given thoughtful response and guidance. She has been exemplary in the development of science-based, common-sense policy and has always been a pleasure to deal with. She will be missed, and the Ornithological Council wishes her great happiness and great birding to fill her leisure hours!
