AOU seeks feedback for student and early professional events

Recommended Posts

Greetings Ornithologists,

I am writing to you on behalf of the AOU Early Professionals Committee (EPC) and the Joint AOU/COS Student Affairs Committee (JSAC).  We are currently looking for feedback from the flock to help us improve opportunities for students and early career professionals at future meetings and year round.  We have created several short, anonymous surveys specific to different career stages, and hope you can take a few minutes to help us by answering our questions.  Established professionals - we need to hear from you too!  Tell us what young applicants are lacking and how best you think we might help them.  Thank you in advance for your help. If you have any questions, please contact Melanie Colon at melaniec@tamu.edu.

The EPC is a newly reinstated committee that focuses on the needs of early career professionals, specifically post-doctoral researchers and other professionals within the first 5 years after graduation.

The JSAC is dedicated to providing undergraduate and graduate students with opportunities for networking and skills development - as well as a bit of fun.  To that end we typically offer a student-professional dinner and quiz bowl and at least one workshop per year.  At the Chicago meeting, we offered a workshop on grant-writing and another on using digital collections in research.
