U.S. government shutdown: what does it mean for researchers working on federally managed public lands?

As of the morning of October 1, the U.S. government is closed for business. That means, among other things, that all federally managed public lands, such as the National Parks, National Wildlife Refuges, National Forests - all of it is closed and off-limits, even if you have a permit to work there.
