(Credit: Scott Flaherty/USFWS) To fulfill the objectives set forth in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) National Wildlife Refuge System’s (System) strategic vision document, nine implementation teams were set up to draft strategic plans. These teams and social network group members of americaswildlife.org are currently addressing the Vision Plan’s 24 recommendations regarding public use; planning; strategic growth of the System; science and research; working with partners, friends, and volunteers; leadership; communications; law enforcement; urban refuges; climate change; and work beyond the boundaries. The Draft Hunting & Fishing Strategic Plan was developed with state fish and wildlife agencies to review current fishing and hunting opportunities on refuges, with a focus on programs and opportunities for youth and people with disabilities. Comments will be accepted until August 15.
