The objectives of the EOU are the advancement of ornithology and the promotion of the scientific study of birds among ornithologists within Europe.

To this end, the EOU holds conferences and other meetings at different places in Europe, promotes communication between European ornithologists, seeks funds to support collaboration among European countries, and engages in other activities designed to advance ornithology in Europe.
