BirdLife Australia is the place for everyone to gather together as a united force and work towards a sustainable future for our native birds. Our work with Australian birds stretches back over 100 years.

BirdLife Australia is dedicated to achieving outstanding conservation results for our native birds and their habitats. With our specialised knowledge and the commitment of our Australia-wide network of members, volunteers and supporters, we are making a real difference for Australia’s birds.

There are almost as many types of people who are into birds as there are birds themselves -- scientists who study them, observers who watch them, twitchers who chase after them, conservationists who want to protect them and members of the public who just like having birds in their lives.

We aim to be at the centre of all this activity as Australia’s leading advocacy organisation for birds and our achievements and history are great foundations to build on. Throughout our journey, we have had many partnerships and are grateful to all of those people that have contributed to our success. The legacy of over a century of passionate effort continues to drive us forward.

BirdLife Australia was created in 2012 from the merger of Birds Australia and Bird Observation & Conservation Australia (BOCA). For more than 100 years, these two groups have been powerful advocates for native birds and their habitats. Now, we have united as an independent, not-for-profit organisation with one important aim: creating a bright future for Australia's birds.

Today, we are the voice of over 200 species of threatened birds and all of our actions work towards better conservation outcomes. We’re connected to a global partnership of like-minded people who share a set of values and principles.

Like you, birds are in our nature.
