  1. Job duration: March 20 till May 15, 2023 Compensation: $1600 to $1900 per month DOE, housing included. Duties: Identify species, count and record waterbirds utilizing the Mackinac Straits. Requires the use of binoculars and spotting scope. Must legibly keep hourly records of the numbers of individuals of each species, and movements of waterbirds on provided forms. Six hours per day starting 15 minutes before sunrise. Must write and post a blog report of observations 1 time per week on MSRW website. Required to write seasonal summary report at end of season. Qualifications: Must be proficient at identifying waterbirds of the Great Lakes region, in flight and on the water. Must be experienced using binoculars and spotting scope, and recording data. Must have own binoculars, spotting scope a plus. Be able to withstand long hours in cold working conditions; having cold weather gear. Must have valid drivers license and reliable transportation.   2. Job duration: March 20 till May 10, 2024 Compensation: $1600 to $1900 per month (DOE), housing included. Duties: Set up and maintain mist nets to capture Owls, setting nets daily at dusk with regular net checks till dawn, except inclement weather. Keep legible records for all birds banded (date, time, measurements, age and sex). Must write blog report on MSRW website, minimum 1 time per week; write end of season summary report on activities and Owls captured. Owl species include, mostly NSWO, possible LEOW, BDOW, and GHOW. Qualifications: Bander must have experience using mist nets to capture owls, and be skilled at extracting Owls. Experience record keeping, handling and banding raptors, particularly Owls. Experience identifying owls, taking measurements and using Pyle guide to age and sex owls. Must be in good physical condition and able to withstand cold working conditions.
