We are seeking enthusiastic individuals able to identify at least 50% of likely species to be encountered in eastern North America. Our protocol dictates that we make formal observations from a specific point for 6 hours per day. In tandem with observations, we operate mist nets for banding of migrants. Our two migration seasons run from April 26- June 8 and July 26- October 31. Training will be provided as time allows.
The Observatory is located on the north shore of Lake Superior and is accessed primarily by boat or a 12.5km trail. This is remote living. Participants, as many as 6, reside in a cabin which has most amenities and contains the lab. Long-term Volunteers, those staying for 3 or more weeks, are provided with food, accommodation, bird handling, and enjoyment.
