Agency: Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Title: Avian Telemetry Receiver Station Field Technicians (3) Classification: Temporary/Seasonal Start date: July 2018 Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana Salary: $13.37-17.60/hr Depending Upon Experience Job Description: The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) seeks three (3) seasonal field technicians for an Avian Telemetry Receiver Station project. These are full-time, temporary positions, expected to last approximately 3 months. Job duties include the construction and maintenance of receiver stations in remote locations, as well as data retrieval and uploading data. These duties may require safely climbing towers and other structures. Employees will be required to have current LA boater safety certification and have the ability to trailer and operate boats in a marine environment. Extensive travel is required, and may include overnight stays; bunkhouse or hotel accommodations and meal stipends are provided. Successful applicants will be provided with all necessary training, supplies, and equipment. Field transportation will be provided from the LDWF office, but employees are responsible for their own transportation to the office. Applicants must take a pre-employment drug screening test. The Louisiana Statewide Passive Detection for Organismal Research (SPDOR) Very High Frequency (VHF) Network is a collaboration between LDWF, Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation, and ConocoPhillips. The SPDOR VHF Network, launched in 2016, is part of a larger network of wildlife tracking VHF telemetry receiver stations that extends from Florida through the east coast of Canada and the Great Lakes. Once completed, the SPDOR VHF Network will consist of over 30 such stations, covering the entire coast of Louisiana.
