BIRD BANDING ASSISTANTS: needed to assist with banding, Motus tower installation, photo catalouging, window collision and other research August/Sept (exact start dates flexible) to early November at the Powdermill Avian Research Center in the mountains of western Pennsylvania. Powdermill is the field station to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History (Pittsburgh) and has a rich history (55 years) of being a leader in bird banding. The assistant will learn the latest in advanced methods in aging (with the emphasis on using molt limits) and sexing landbirds. Banding will occur 6 days a week and begin 1/2 hour before sunrise. Other responsibilities will include assisting with workshops, public education, data entry, and net maintenance. Qualifications: Prior experience extracting and banding songbirds. Ability to bleed bird via brachial venipuncture and identify eastern birds by sight is strongly desirable.
